Overview

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur – (IITK) is an elite public university with a reputation for excellence in research and the highest level of academic achievement on a global scale, and it has received a designation as an Institute of Eminence from the Government of India. In 1959, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur was established as a part of the Kanpur Indo-American Programme Group, and it is uniquely situated in the context of Indian education, being the first such University to provide a curriculum for Computer Science through collaboration with the American Ivy League Universities of the time. Admission Process

Undergraduate admissions (B.Tech or BS degrees) at IIT are handled through a rigid selection process, which includes successfully passing the JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) Advanced, after qualifying for JEE Main exams. The admissions of students into the M.Tech, MSc and PhD programs primarily depend on the results of national level entrance exams (GATE or JAM), usually supplemented by individual technical interviews or a written test to select high quality candidates.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for admission into undergraduate programs, candidates must be ranked in the top 20 percentile of JEE Advanced or must achieve at least 75 percent total marks in their 12th grade. Generally postgraduate applicants are required to hold an appropriate undergraduate or professional graduate degree with at least 55 to 75 percent of total marks as well as have a valid GATE, JAM, or CAT score.

The placement season is divided into two phases of recruiting by using either on-campus, virtual or hybrid methods. 1. Campus & Accommodation

The IIT Kanpur campus, encompassing 1,055 acres, provides for most of our nearly 4,000 students through thirteen Halls Of Residence where students may access year-round electricity, high-speed Internet, and versatile array of dining options. Each hall is designed to be a "home away from home". The spacious rooms, the internal sports courts, and the internal common reading rooms allow students a safe and supportive living environment.

2. Academic Facilities

The academic area of the IIT Kanpur campus has state-of-the-art lecture halls; the P.K. Kelkar Library; and there are specialized facilities, such as the National Wind Tunnel Facility and multiple cutting-edge research labs, as well as a central workshop and an extremely large Computer Centre. The availability of this extensive and advanced physical infrastructure enables IIT Kanpur to conduct cutting-edge research in aerospace technologies, nanotechnology.

3. Sports & Recreation

The extensive sporting infrastructure at IIT Kanpur includes one Olympic-sized swimming pool, one large stadium and two multi-purpose sports complexes. The sports facilities are provided for a variety of sporting activities, including but not limited to: archery, squash, and weightlifting.
