Admission Process

The admission procedure is experienced carried out centrally, national portals (as an instructions) based on merit only. All applicants seeking admission to B.Tech will need a score from JEE Advanced, whereas those looking to gain acceptance to B.Des will need a score from UCEED. Admission into one of the PG programs (M.Tech or M.Sc.) either utilizes the GATE or the IIT-JAM exams to achieve acceptance.

Eligibility Criteria

Different programs have different eligibility requirements. For example, the educational requirements for undergraduate students typically include passing Class 12 with physics, chemistry and mathematics (minimum 75% for some categories). For master's degrees, students are usually required to have a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject AND obtain at least 60% or above OR another equivalent qualification (e.g., 6.0 CPI). For PhDs, students will need a master's degree (in the relevant field) or a high-scoring B.Tech (from IIT) to be eligible.

The Centre For Career Development (CCD) at IIT Guwahati has created a placement system that connects its highly academic and globally industrial communities and provides students with opportunities to work in a large variety of different sectors, such as software engineering, core engineering, data science, and finance by attracting a wide range of high-quality company recruiters every year. Throughout each academic year, students have an opportunity to interview with many of these companies through campus interviews and to obtain pre-placement job offers. The centre focuses on preparing students holistically by providing them with both technical and non-technical/soft skills training to help them successfully enter the job market, both within India and internationally, once they graduate.

1. Campus & Accommodation

Located on a 700-acre site, the campus has 11 boys hostels and 2 girls hostels, and provides single occupancy (mostly) accommodation, with modern day conveniences. Each hostel has its own mess, canteen, stationery store, and round-the-clock internet access, making it a self sufficient unit. Hostel Affairs Board (HAB) works to maintain the highest standard of living for all students living in residence.

2. Academic Facilities

Facilities at the Academic Centre comprise the Lakshminath Bezbaroa Central Library (digital resources building), a Digital Resource Centre located over four floors, an Academic Complex that covers 74,000 square metres and has modern laboratories (state-of-the-art), the High Performance Computing Centre (Ishan) and a complex located within a lecture hall suitable for hosting global conferences with an audience capacity of up to 1,500 persons in an auditorium.

3. Sports & Recreation

An 8 lane Olympic swimming pool, floodlit football/cricket fields, and indoor stadium with synthetic courts for badminton/squash comprise extensive facilities managed by the Gymkhana for students to use recreationally. Most importantly the festivals Alcheringa (Cultural) and Techniche (Technical) are major student recreation events; they are both considered to be two of the largest annual festivals in Asia.
