Overview

The Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras is known for its academic excellence and analytical approach in providing management education in India. The courses of the Department of Management Studies are delivered on the IIT Madras campus and emphasise how to integrate technology, data and innovation with management principles, while developing skills in the areas of strategic thinking, problem-solving and ethical leadership that students will need to succeed as corporate and entrepreneurial leaders in a constantly changing business environment. The Department of Management Studies uses a combination of theoretical and practical learning methods in providing a well-rounded education. Theoretical education is provided through classroom lectures, while students gain practical experience through case studies, project-based assignments and interaction with industry professionals. Both types of education are delivered by faculty members with many years of real-world experience in their respective areas of expertise and in a collaborative environment. The Department of Management Studies also provides students with exposure to an interdisciplinary approach to engineering and science. In addition, the Department of Management Studies provides students with preparation for future leadership roles through their curriculum by developing the necessary skills and talents of future leaders in research, sustainability, and the development of leadership to become leaders of businesses of all types in the future.

The Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras provides its students with an experiential learning environment through an unparalleled mix of technical competence and business leadership abilities. Admission Process

To be eligible for admission into the 2026 batch, candidates have to undergo a multiple step evaluation process. The Composite Score is calculated from the candidates' CAT scores (Countrywide Aptitude Test); their past academic record; their work history; and from the diversity they bring to the cohort. The shortlisted candidates will then be invited to participate in reflective writing and personal interviewing (PI).

Eligibility Criteria

International applicants and candidates from India are required to provide proof of eligibility through a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwD) or equivalent from an accredited institution. Applicants from India must provide evidence of eligibility via the CAT 2025 score, while NRI/foreign nationals must submit a GMAT score to demonstrate eligibility. IIT graduates who have obtained an 8.0 or higher cumulative grade point average will not have to take the CAT, simplifying the entry process into advanced management studies.

Placements

IIT Madras – DoMS regularly demonstrates excellent performance with regards to placement opportunities provided to students, as evidenced by their large number of employers representing MNCs (Multinational Corporations) from multiple international locations. The global representation across many industries has ensured that candidates can access a variety of positions such as Product Manager, Data Scientist, and Management Trainee, among others, by successfully completing their summer internship placements, thereby receiving pre-placement offers (PPOs) before graduation; demonstrating the level of industry experience students receive while completing their programs, as well as providing students with valuable management analytical skill sets through various methods utilized by both the institution (IIT-Madras) and its corporate partners.

Infrastructure

1. Campus & Accommodation

The campus is completely residential featuring over 20 hostels named after rivers in India, and all MBA students have their own furnished bedroom equipped with LAN/Wi-Fi, along with access to two different mess halls (Himalaya & Nilgiris), 24 hours of security, in-house laundry facility, etc. All are located near other facilities including a hospital and a shopping centre on campus.

2. Academic Facilities

The DoMS has cutting-edge facilities that include technologically advanced air-conditioned classrooms and a library that is exclusively for the use of the students enrolled in the DoMS program. In addition, students who choose to study at DoMS may also use the Central Library (five stories tall) at any time during the day or night, which contains more than 2,000,000 different digital resources, electronic journals, and specialized databases, as well as access to high-performance computers for advanced data analysis and research projects.

3. Sports & Recreation

The students at the University can have access to some unique sports facilities: The Manohar C. Watsa Stadium, a world-class swimming pool, and the new Sitara Indoor Sport Facility, among others, are available to them. There are also cricket and football floodlit fields and multiple courts (tennis, squash, and badminton), all with top-level equipment to help maintain healthy and balanced living styles for students.
