Overview

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is a distinguished educational institution dedicated to research and policy formation that supports advancement in both social sciences and management sciences with a strong focus on interdisciplinary learning. Students pursuing a social sciences degree can also acquire an academic qualification of equal strength by completing the required course work. Due to the depth of study provided by these particular types of academic programs, TISS is able to instil ethical values, corporate responsibility, and social accountability in its graduates, which will assist them in achieving career success in both public and private sectors across the nation. Another distinguishing characteristic of TISS is its understanding of the need for a quality research and teaching faculty who possess both teaching and research capabilities at a national level while providing an unusually high degree of community involvement. A major component of the academic experience provided by TISS is its heavy emphasis on field placements, critical thinking development, and hands-on experience through extensive fieldwork, experiments in experimentation, and collaborative community projects. All of these elements, combined, support the success of graduates in addressing the many complex social problems we face today and in providing strong leadership for future nation-building and sustainability efforts for years to come.
