Institute of Management Studies - Banaras Hindu University (IMTBHU) provides students with a strong foundation of knowledge in management studies. The program includes both theoretical and practical applications of management through various methodologies which may be case studies, projects, classroom discussions, etc., to provide the student with a well-rounded and comprehensive education in management. Hence, students will have developed the necessary analytical thinking skills, will be able to lead, and will know how to make moral/ethical decisions. Students will also have developed research skills, critical thinking skills, and lifelong learning through their academic experience. The combination of quality faculty members and diverse student body provides an environment that facilitates the development of an overall understanding of business and management in the context of the multiple perspectives of business/management. The focus on professionalism, social responsibility, and strategic thinking prepares students to deal with the complexity of the workplace by providing the student a sound base of management skills, abilities, and values. The purpose therefore of the Institute is to develop outstanding managers and leaders who can contribute their skills, abilities, learning ability and self-confidence towards any organization, governmental agency, or entrepreneurial venture in an ever-changing business environment.

Admission Process

Candidates are selected through an arduous three-stage merit-based selection process. Firstly, candidates are shortlisted according to their 2025 CAT scores. Secondly, shortlisted candidates will have to attend a Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) on the Varanasi campus. The final round is the calculation of the final merit using a composite score made up of 50% for the CAT score, 20% academic records and 30% combined GDPI results.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution under the 10+2+3 scheme or a professional degree (Agriculture, Technology or Professional Law) with 50% of the total possible score being attained (45% for SC/ST). Those holding a postgraduate qualification are also eligible for admission. A valid CAT 2025 score is mandatory for all MBA and MBA-IB candidates; however, students who will complete their degrees during the 2025 academic year may apply to IMS-BHU provisionally.

Infrastructure

1. Campus & Accommodation

The institute is situated on a beautiful 1,300-acre campus at BHU that provides a peaceful setting for students to study and live in. Both male and female students in management have dedicated halls of residence available to them (the Management Hostel is for boys; the Triveni Complex is for girls) which are equipped with Wi-Fi facilities, 24/7 electric supply and clean mess facilities. The campus itself operates as a self-contained township with its own health clinics, post office and the world-renowned Vishwanath Temple. 

2. Academic Facilities

The department contains centrally air-conditioned Smart Classrooms and seminar halls which include modern audio-visual technology. There is a 1,100 sq. m. library with over 20,000 books and 100 journals located within the department. In addition to this, students have access to high-speed internet, an advanced Computer Centre, and the large Sayaji Rao Gaekwad (Central) Library for their research purposes.

3. Sports & Recreation

Through the University Sports Board, IMS-BHU encourages development in all aspects of life through engagement in extracurricular activities. Facilities such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool and indoor stadium as well as extensive outdoor areas for playing soccer and cricket are all available at IMS-BHU. In addition to being able to participate in a variety of cultural activities through their respective hobby clubs (including but not limited to photography, music, etc.), IMS-BHU has produced many successful cultural and management festivals (Kshitij) since its inception.
