IIT Bhubaneswar was established in 2008 and is one of the newly established IITs, called "2nd Generation IITs". IIT Bhubaneswar quickly became known for its emphasis on Holistic Education and for conducting High Impact Research. The Institute is located in beautiful surroundings at the base of Barunei Hill in Odisha. The Institute has a large self contained permanent Campus which has been designed to be Eco-Friendly and Sustainable. The Academic Structure of IIT Bhubaneswar provides a unique organization of Schools instead of the traditional system of Departments. The Schools encourage an Interdisciplinary Approach to Engineering, Physical Sciences and Humanity. If you want to study all things relating to Climate Science and Minerals Engineering or are interested in doing cutting edge research in Artificial Intelligence, the multi disciplined Schools at IIT Bhubaneswar provide an opportunity for students to participate in various types of learning experiences. At IIT Bhubaneswar, we work hard to create a "learning community" anchored by our commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship through interdisciplinary collaboration. Each of our "Schools" is conceptually unique yet integrated (by virtue of their shared mission). Mentorship and supporting research capabilities exist through our Career Development Cell (CDC) in order to create opportunities for students to convert technical knowledge into impactful solutions to real-world/global issues.

Admission Process

Undergraduate admissions are strictly merit-based; after qualifying for JEE Advanced (following JEE Main), candidates must then go through JoSAA counseling to be able to obtain admission into IIT Bhubaneswar. Admission into our M. Tech and M.Sc; degree programs is based on GATE and JAM scores, respectively; while Ph.D. selection entails an extensive process of shortlisting applicants based on national exam scores, followed by an extensive technical interview.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for B.Tech courses, applicants need to have passed12th grade with Physics, Chemistry and Maths, and have achieved a minimum score of 75% aggregate (65% for SC/ST/PWD) or been in the top 20 percent of students who took their state board exams. For post graduate courses students usually only need to have earned a relevant bachelor degree with at least 60% mark (55% for reserved categories) and obtained a valid national level entrance exam score.

Infrastructure

1. Campus & Accommodation

This new residential campus has an area of 936 acres and includes modern hostels on campus for students. These hostels contain single-occupancy rooms and provide high-speed internet access, in addition to other amenities such as 24-hour power supply, hygienic dining halls and shopping complexes (which are integrated into the residential complexes). In addition to the original design of the campus (which is intended to be both safe and comfortable for students), 

2. Academic Facilities

The academic infrastructure is also organized into separate schools that offer specialised facilities for lecture and research, including advanced lecture rooms and research laboratories. The major components of the academic infrastructure include: (1) the Central Library with many digital resources; (2) the high-performance computing lab; and (3) the specialised centres for climate science and mineral engineering.

3. Sports & Recreation

In addition to academic facilities, the institute also has a comprehensive range of sporting infrastructure, including a large cricket stadium, two football fields and multiple (floodlit) courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis. In addition to the outdoor facilities, there are many indoor facilities for table tennis and badminton, and a modern fitness facility is located on campus.
