Overview

Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) has been one of the best institutionalities in India providing forest managerial education and has collaborated with other international and national institutions and organizations on sustainable management of ecosystems. The Institute was established by Government of India (Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India) in 1986. IIFM is one of the leading Sectoral Management Schools in the Asia Region developed with an aim of bridging the gap between traditional forestry and modern management. The Bhopal-based IIFM has an ideal setting for the study and management of Forests, Environment, and Natural Resources. IIFM is actively preparing "Green Managers" through its flagship courses (Multi Disciplines of Forest Management) including MBA Forestry and MBA in Sustainability Management, so that they can be prepared to meet the difficult challenges resulting from Climate Change, Conservation of Biological Diversity, and Sustainable Development. In addition to its innovative pedagogy and curriculum, IIFM is considered to be a leading training and consultancy centre for the Indian Forest Service as well as several international organizations working in this area, thus fulfilling its mission to be a leader in Professional Management of Forest Ecosystems through Sustainable Development.

The IIFM was founded to have future leaders gain management and environmental management skills through the integration of traditional managerial theory with the principles of sustainability and conservation of natural resources. As a result, students trained at IIFM become “Green Managers” who can find a balance between the operational efficiency of firms and their ecological impacts. IIFM develops professionals through its curriculum and interdisciplinary research programs, who will create sustainable solutions related to international climate change policies, rural development, and conservation.

Admission Process

The selection of candidates is done through merit-based processes and multiple steps; the first step an applicant must accomplish is to pass a national exam that has been recognized as a valid score by the examination board, such as: CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, GMAT. Once an applicant is short-listed, the next step in the selection process is to conduct a comprehensive Personal Interview (PI) and complete a Written Aptitude Test (WAT).

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants should have completed an undergraduate program at an accredited institution and possess at least 50% total grade point average. Applicants within the SC, ST, or PwD categories may qualify with an additional 5% on their total grade point average. Current undergraduate students may also apply if they have completed all requirements for their degrees prior to application due dates.

Infrastructure

1. Campus & Accommodation

Our residential campus has separate hostels and provides a range of accommodation options, including single occupancy, furnished rooms. We provide high speed internet, and common lounge areas containing televisions as well as student-run cafes with clean, nutritious food. Our campus also has guest houses, so visiting parents and experts may have someplace to stay while their children are at school.

2. Academic Facilities

Smart classrooms that have air conditioning and state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment are part of the overall academic framework. A "Library and Documentation Centre" with 41,000+ volumes and extensive digital databases is one of the many academic facilities available on campus. The computer centre is open 24/7 and provides access to specialist applications such as GIS and SPSS, in addition to a large lecture theatre and several specialist research centres.

3. Sports & Recreation

IIFM encourages a balanced way of life with a variety of recreation facilities (sports facilities) like the cricket and football grounds, the basketball, volleyball and badminton courts, and the table tennis and carrom tables, and from the gym facility for indoor recreation opportunities. Additionally, a number student-run clubs (e.g. Eco Club, Cultural Club) also use these facilities for their activities year around.
