Overview

The Department of Management Sciences at IIT Kanpur takes an unequivocal, multi-disciplinary approach, utilising analytical techniques and practical applications as a principal means of delivering management education. The belief at IIT Kanpur is that 21st century leaders should have adequate skills in decision science and economics as well as in technology management and organisational behaviour. To accomplish their goal of producing managers (i.e., "executives") through the use of research-based learning systems, case discussions using real business issues, and the resolution of current business problems, the Department of Management Sciences creates a highly supportive environment for students by providing a robust academic programme with extensive faculty support, industry-relevant projects, and a variety of other resources that are favourable to enhancing creativity and motivation. Graduates from the Department are able to face the scientific precision of a rapidly changing global market place through the encouragement of strong leadership skills and responsible behaviours.

Admission Process

The initial stage of the selection procedure consists of shortlisting candidates who take the Common Admission Test (CAT) based on their percentage of CAT scores. Candidates then move on to participate in group discussions and personal interviews (GDPI) as well as their overall merit score being made up of CAT (20%), Academic Score (20%), Work Experience (10%) and Group Discussion & Personal Interview results (50%).

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants should possess a Bachelor degree (minimum 60%/55% if SC/ST/PWD) AND must of studied mathematics in 12th grade (minimum). Although any discipline can apply to programme, people will be accepted for the Programme irrespective of their discipline, they should have considerable commendable abilities in numerical talent. People graduating this year to apply on conditional basis assuming that all admissions qualifications will be met prior to entry into the college.

1. Campus & Accommodation

Covering an area of 1,050 acres, this residential campus is a peaceful and self-supporting environment. Housing is provided in Residence Halls equipped with modern amenities, broadband and 24-hour security making them excellent locations for peer learning. In addition to the many dining facilities and green spaces, the Residence Halls foster a welcoming community atmosphere, enabling residents to transition easily into campus life.

2. Academic Facilities

A dedicated department building includes smart classrooms, seminar facilities, and a faculty lounge. Highlights of the department's programs include the System Optimization Laboratory's advanced computational resources for research and professional practice. The P.K. Kelkar Library is among the best technical libraries in India; students have full access to this library, as well as various specialized research centres like the Centre for Energy Regulation.

3. Sports & Recreation

Students of DoMS have the advantage of having an Olympic level sports complex which contains a gymnasium, swimming pool and courts for badminton, squash and tennis.
