Overview

The National Management Aptitude Test (NMAT) as an entrance exam for admission to MBA programme in India & abroad. The NMAT is administered via an electronic medium, which provides flexibility in scheduling and multiple opportunities for retaking the examination. Candidates who take the NMAT will be evaluated in three areas - Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. Test-takers may choose from several different dates to take their NMAT and the retake option provides them with an opportunity to improve their scores if they wish.

How to Apply

The application is an online form on the official NMAT by GMAC website. Everything below is done in one sitting or saved and returned to; nothing is done on paper.

1

Register

Create an account on the official NMAT by GMAC website with an email address and mobile number you will still have months from now -- every notice, the admit card and the result reach you there. A registration number is issued; keep it.

2

Fill the form

Personal details, academic record from class 10 onwards, category, and work experience where it applies. The academic figures must match your marksheets exactly, because they are verified later against the originals.

3

Choose test cities

NMAT is self-scheduled. After registering you book your own date, time and centre from what is available in the testing window, and you may reschedule within the rules. Booking early gives you the widest choice and leaves room for a retake.

4

Upload photograph and signature

Both have to meet the format, size and background stated in the notification. A rejected upload is the most common reason a form is left incomplete past the deadline.

5

Pay the fee

Online, through the official portal only. The amount is set afresh in each year’s notification and is lower for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Keep the payment receipt.

6

Submit, then check

Print the completed form. A correction window usually opens afterwards -- it is limited, and it rarely covers every field, so it is a repair, not a second chance.

Apply only through the official portal. No agent can register you, and nobody can change a score once it is declared.

Selection Process

NMAT is unusual in three ways, and each one changes how it should be approached.

  • You choose when to sit it. The exam runs across a testing window of about seventy-five days and slots are booked by the candidate, so a weak first attempt can be followed by a stronger one inside the same cycle.
  • You choose the order of the sections at the start of the exam. Each has its own time limit and once a section ends you cannot return to it.
  • There is no negative marking. Every question should be answered; an unattempted question and a wrong one score the same.

Scores are scaled and reported per section as well as overall. NMIMS and the other participating schools shortlist on the scaled score and then run a case discussion and personal interview.
