Overview

Through BITSAT's Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, candidates are evaluated on their ability to solve problems, solve them quickly and efficiently and understand how those problems fit into a larger framework. In this way, academic programs across BITS campuses will be assessed in terms of their quality and consistency in providing technical education.

Eligibility

BITSAT is the entrance for the BITS Pilani campuses at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. It is a private university exam with its own bar, and the percentage requirement is higher than most.

  • Qualifying exam: class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates for B.Pharm may offer Biology in place of Mathematics.
  • Marks: at least 75% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together, and at least 60% in each of the three individually. Both conditions apply, not either.
  • English: adequate proficiency is required, since the paper carries an English section.
  • Year of passing: the current or the immediately preceding year.

Candidates who top their board examination are considered for direct admission to a programme of their choice without sitting BITSAT.

How to Apply

The application is an online form on the BITS Pilani admission website. Everything below is done in one sitting or saved and returned to; nothing is done on paper.

1

Register

Create an account on the BITS Pilani admission website with an email address and mobile number you will still have months from now -- every notice, the admit card and the result reach you there. A registration number is issued; keep it.

2

Fill the form

Personal details, academic record from class 10 onwards, category, and work experience where it applies. The academic figures must match your marksheets exactly, because they are verified later against the originals.

3

Choose test cities

Cities are given in order of preference and allotted on availability, so the first choice is not guaranteed. Pick somewhere you can reach the morning of the exam without an overnight journey.

4

Upload photograph and signature

Both have to meet the format, size and background stated in the notification. A rejected upload is the most common reason a form is left incomplete past the deadline.

5

Pay the fee

Online, through the official portal only. The amount is set afresh in each year’s notification and is lower for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Keep the payment receipt.

6

Submit, then check

The test application and the admission application are two different forms. Sitting BITSAT without submitting the admission application, with your programme preferences, leaves you out of the allotment.

Apply only through the official portal. No agent can register you, and nobody can change a score once it is declared.

Selection Process

BITSAT is a computer-based test with a feature no other engineering entrance has.

  • The paper covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology, English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning. The last two are where candidates who prepared only for JEE lose ground.
  • Bonus questions: a candidate who finishes the full paper with time left is offered additional questions. They can only add to the score — but once you take them you cannot go back to the earlier ones.
  • There is negative marking on wrong answers.
  • Admission is on an all-India merit list against the programme preferences submitted in a separate admission application after the test.
