IIT Jammu placed 56th in the NIRF Engineering 2025 rankings, with a score of 53.08 out of 100. The institute has 1,071 students and 138 teaching staff, putting it among the smaller IITs by enrolment.

Placement outcomes have varied across years. In the 4-year undergraduate engineering programme, 178 of 179 eligible graduates in 2023-24 sought placement and 113 were placed, with a median salary of 11.7 LPA -- down from 16 LPA in each of the two preceding years, when 134 of 179 and 93 of 128 graduates respectively were placed. The 2-year PG engineering programme saw 48 of 69 graduates placed in 2023-24 at a median salary of 9.15 LPA, compared to 11.5 LPA in 2022-23 and 18 LPA in 2021-22. The small 3-year PG cohort, with just 3 to 5 graduates each year, recorded median salaries between 19 LPA and 27.37 LPA.

These figures are useful for judging fit: applicants to the UG programme should weigh the drop in both placement rate and median salary over three years, while PG applicants can see that outcomes differ sharply by programme length and cohort size.
